
Wiz Kudowor
Wisdom Kudowor, affectionately known as “Wiz,” was born in 1957 in Takoradi, Ghana.
In 1981, Wiz Kudowor graduated with a first-class honours degree in Fine Arts from the College of Art at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Kumasi. Currently, he resides and works in his artist studio located in Dzorwulu, Accra, Ghana.
Wiz’s artworks prominently feature Cubist and Futurist shapes and designs, showcasing his artistic prowess. While embracing modernism, his creations simultaneously breathe new life into traditional forms and aesthetics rooted in Ghana’s cultural history.
Through his art, Wiz employs ancient symbols and aesthetic elements drawn from Ghana’s rich cultural heritage. These serve as artistic tools to emphasize space and structure, resulting in vibrant configurations on his canvases.
Utilizing a foam roller and a palette knife, Wiz skillfully crafts paintings that are characterized by bold colors and intense expression. His unique style seamlessly blends themes, styles, and expressive patterns derived from diverse cultural backgrounds, earning him the esteemed title of a “transcultural visionary.”
For nearly three decades, Wiz Kudowor’s artistic journey has encompassed numerous solo and group exhibitions across Africa, Europe, Asia, and the United States. His profound impact as an artist continues to resonate on a global scale.
